Top 5 locations for photographs in Southern Tasmania

At Home

Home is where real life happens. It’s where you laugh, cry, play and relax. It can make the perfect backdrop for meaningful photographs and capturing what matters most.

Authentic

When you’re in your own home you feel comfortable, more relaxed and kids can be themselves in their own space. There’s no pressure for anyone to behave, sit still or ‘perform’ you can be yourselves and create authentic memories that last forever.

Home sessions also don’t require you to find outfits that match the backdrop, you can wear whatever you want, you can curl up on the couch or play with the toys with the kids. Every day moments are often the most beautiful memories that you’ll treasure for many years to come.

Weather

It doesn’t matter what the weather is. It can be raining outside and you can sit by the fire, it can be foggy and cold and your little ones can just be out there for a moment and then run back inside.

A photo shoot at home is more than just capturing the perfect family shot, it’s about real life, it’s authentic, it’s beautiful and it’s you.

By the Water

Whether is a river, a lake or the ocean, there is something so peaceful about photographs by the water. If you love spending time with your family by the water, then this could be the perfect location.

It can tell your story

If you love to fish, swim or just play by the water then photographs doing what you love can be so much more meaningful. There’s a lot of things you can do by the water which can also make some great candid, fun and real moments - you can skip rocks, fish, paddle board or even sit on the jetty.

Calm

Being around water can help you feel calm and relaxed which can be ideal if you are feeling nervous about your photoshoot. Water can create a soft mood and a beautiful backdrop for any family.

The Beach

The beach is timeless and can be such a special place for family photographs. The beach makes such a beautiful backdrop with the waves and the sand. Kids love to paddle in the water no matter the weather!

Fun

No matter the weather, the beach always invites kids to play, the run barefoot and to jump the waves. Photographs at the beach offer the opportunity for candid, fun and real moments - especially with little ones.

Timeless backdrop

The colours of the beach provide such a classic and timeless backdrop. The sandy tones, the blues in the water and the open sky allows you to wear almost any wardrobe colour palette and the backdrop will never take away from the main subject, the family.

An Orchard

An just something beautiful about an orchard. I love the rows of trees, the open sky and the privacy. Orchards are always changes and create a special place for little ones to play and explore, no matter what the season.

The seasons

One of the reasons I love the orchard is how different it can be from one season to the next.

  • Spring: The trees are popping with blossoms - just like popcorn. Spring time in an orchard can feel like a fairytale and it’s the perfect place for little ones.

  • Summer: The trees are full of beautiful green leaves, it’s warm and the sky is blue.

  • Autumn: The leaves are changing and there’s nothing quite like playing in fallen autumn leaves. The apples are also ripe which adds some colour and the weather can be the perfect temperature.

  • Winter: The trees after their leaves have dropped off look so beautiful especially if there is fog or even some frost. It feels quiet and with layers of clothing a photoshoot in an orchard in winter can be stunning.

The Bush/Forest

The bush is a little hidden gem that is often forgotten about when choosing a location for your family photographs. Here’s a few reasons why you should choose the bush for your next photo shoot.

The bush can work in any weather - especially the RAIN!

Rain is never something you wish for when planning your family photographs however; if you’ve chosen the bush as your location, you never have to worry and a little bit of rain is a secret gift. A little drizzle adds a bit of richness to the leaves, it can darken the tree trunks and make everything look a little bit fresher and alive.

If you have little ones, the rain and puddles in the bush can make for some beautiful photographs full of play, add some rain coats and gumboots and you've got yourself a playground.

The backdrop is timeless

The bush is never the same. It changes depending on the season, the weather and even time of day. So your photos won’t look like everyone else’s, they will be unique, and yours. Whether the bush is green with rain drops, golden and dry with the sun, or even moody and foggy the bush will always provide a great backdrop!

No matter where your family photographs are taken, the most important thing is that you are altogether and getting it done. One of the hardest parts is booking the session, feeling like you just can’t find the time, but I promise you, once you’re booked in the hard part is over and you won’t regret it.
